Why did you fall off of your project?
Seriously. Think back to the last session on your current project. Replay the climb in your your mind. Now focus on the exact moment that you fell off of the climb. What was the reason you fell?
Be honest with yourself. Were you so pumped that you literally couldn’t keep yourself on the wall? Did you foot slip? Did you barn door? Did you miss a low percentage type-move? Was one of...

This weekend I went on a solo mission to finish up my bouldering projects for the season - namely Ride the Lightning, which, much to my dismay, was soaking wet from rain two days prior.
After arriving to the park bright and early on Saturday and discovering the state of RTL I set to warming up in the cold weather on a classic v2 named E-Z Cheese which I had never touched. After 3 laps on said...
Here’s the latest from New Hampshire. Spent December 3rd out in perfect, sunny, 45 degree weather climbing on the granite boulders of Pawtuckaway. Mooost of the video is my buddy Dan Blanchette crushing everything in sight. I got through the technical crux of my hardest project ever - Ride the Lightning (v6), and couldn’t get back up that high from the ground. I’m so psyched to send next time...

The send of my longest-standing project to date. I started working on Iron Cross sometime in 2008. At the time I was sending v3s, thinking I was a v4+ climber. After expecting a send on it every trip to Lincoln Woods for years since then finally in November of 2011 I sent Iron Cross. 2nd go of the day after about a year and change away from it. It was nice to see that I had progressed in the...

New Hampshire Bouldering
Here’s a quick video I threw together from yesterday - the day before hurricane Irene hit.
Enjoy! Get Psyched!
A video I made about a friend of mine - Josh Helke - owner of Organic Climbing. I was thrilled to see so many people watch the video and give me feedback in some form. Scheming about my next video…

A taste of February in PA
Here’s a short little bouldering clip I put together from last month. Doug Fischer, Mike Molony, Josh Helke, and I went out to Hunter’s on a sunny but windy Saturday in February. Doug and Mike climbed allllmost every line on the Standard American Accent boulder. I got a few of them on film and put them together to some relaxing music by the Kings of Convenience called Boat Behind....
FAs happening at Hunters!
So I’ve been bitten with the FA bug as of late. A few weeks ago I took a stroll with Josh Helke of Organic Climbing in the woods of the Rocky Ridge Natural Hiking Area - more commonly known as Hunters - of Central PA. I followed Josh to a new completely undeveloped area on the northernmost point of the Ridge - since then we’ve begun (or at least I have) referring to the area as...
Hueco trip from friggin January
Ha! I totally forgot to post the video I compiled from my January 2010/2011 trip to Hueco Tanks on this blog! As the entire point of this blog is sharing my climbing media I find this kind of funny.
Super-brief rundown of said trip: Freak blizzard in CT cancels our flight out, trip got cut 4 days short as a result. Finally got out to Texas and it snows the first day we’re there. The...

Some cool footage from Cell Block Six (5.12c) at the Red River Gorge (although I hate the fake artificial “crimping” noises they added). I need to get down there NOW.
Oh and this guy climbs it with no chalk. what.
Whitney on change
Me: I'm just saying it's weird to think back on a time as short as 4 years and be baffled at where you ended up - and how much you never saw it coming.
Whitney: I've changed too, just so you know.
Me: as long as we both stay fun and nice
Whitney: I think we will.

The New River Gorge, Projects Ticked, and Training
So I’ve been meaning to get an update up here. The weekend of May 8th Ali and I made the 5 hour drive down to West Virginia’s New River Gorge, where we got a great weekend of sport climbing under our belts to start off the season. It had been waaaay too long since I’ve been sport climbing - besides a day or two at Rumney last August it’d been like a year an a half...
Big Up's new short - The Insiders

Rocky Ridge Natural Bouldering Guide
So currently the only resource for topo/beta/general info on the primary legal bouldering area - The Rocky Ridge Natural area (aka Hunter’s Rocks - although that name refers to the small section of rock that is on private land, so I’m trying to stay away from using it too much) is a very sparse littering of info on rockclimbing.com.
This is a real shame because the majority of the...
The First Will Be Last
Doug Fischer recently had a very good day of climbing at the Hunters Power Cut. After ticking The Hunger Artist (v11) off his list he brought Ali and I to a new boulder (for us).
The main line on the boulder is a climb called The First Church of Appliantology (v7) - a 15 move traverse leading up a gentle hill for about 20 feet. Since then I’ve been super excited about working this thing,...
A Weekend At The Gunks
So a while back at this point (April 9th-11th) Ali and I took a road trip to the Gunks in New York to meet up with a bunch of CT friends and have a weekend of climbing. We had quite an adventure of leaving after work on Friday night and setting up our brand new tent for the first time in a camping area we’d never been to before. Our friends Dan, Steve, Maya, Lisa, and Brian (aka Sardo) all...

Another Hunter's trip
This past Saturday Ali and I made it back out to Hunter’s. It’s great that her psych is totally matching mine these days for getting outside to climb. I love it.
The weather proved pretty hot (somewhere between the mid-70’s and low-80’s) but I’m not much of a heat-whiner (ehemadamjanickiehem) so that didn’t make much a difference in my climbing.
I spent most...
New people, New [boulder] problems
Ali and I got out to Hunter’s after work on Thursday to get a taste of the gorgeous weather and delicious Sandstone. I managed an ascent of Right Eye (v4) and then we bumped into some new folks at the Incredarete Boulder.
This is Doug climbing a nice tall arete problem called Cockblock (v4):
I gave this line two burns, got to the same sketchy spot right at the top and came down, not...

All-time favorite climbing shots
I recently realized that I have a decent amount of climbing photography floating around the internet that got there before I started this blog. Here are some of my favorite shots, and a brief description of them:
This is my buddy Ryland Bauer (AKA Ryu) sending a problem called The Vagina (v8) in Rocktown, GA. Taken in May of ’09.

My local climbing
So yesterday I finally managed to get out and climb at my local crag. I’d stopped by this place a few times just to scope it out but never had shoes/pads/spotters so yesterday was really awesome. I got in touch with some local climbers via a sneaky facebook group and drove out to meet them in the afternoon.
After hanging out for a little while and doing some easy warmup climbs I got on...
Hello again, blog.
I’ve been without a capable computer for the better part of a year now and after just getting a new job I finally had the money for a new one.
I got a Sony Vaio E series laptop in white and it’s the bee’s goddamn knees. Here it is, being pretty:
Anyway - now that I have that I’ve started editing photos again like mad - I’ve got a small back-log.

I got published! Yessssss.
I recently had a photo published in a climbing magazine for the first time. This month’s issue of Dead Point Magazine featured a shot I got of a really extraordinary climber named Ronnie Dickson while in Rocktown, GA. Ronnie is a very inspiring climber with a great attitude. The full writeup is very interesting and I highly suggest giving it a good read.
Here is the photo:

Madawaska Lake
I’ve spent the last 4 days in New Sweden, Maine visiting my girlfriend’s family at their lake house. I’ve been trying to document a lot of the trip, and find the clouds and lakeside view a constant inspiration. The weather is completely unpredictable, which makes things more or less impossible as far as taking my gear out on the water. The sense of family up here is very...

Here's another blog for you to read
Welcome to my photo blog. How boring.
I’ll do my best to keep you kind folks entertained with news from my latest shoots, whether they be headshot sessions, climbing sessions, or a crappy self portrait.
I’ll try to throw some details about the shoots and techniques, and I’ll probably end up posting over gear I have/buy/drool over (just in case you’re my mom and it’s nearing my birthday).
